“Political Animals”
DRAMA. Sigourney Weaver plays the matriarch of a Washington, D.C., dynasty locked in a never-ending a power struggle. The “Alien” star is the former first lady and current secretary of state whose philandering ex-husband (Ciaran Hinds) serves as a lingering source of scandal. Then there are her sons — the golden boy (James Wolk) and the screw-up (Sebastian Stan) — who are forced to make their own sacrifices for the sake of the family name when a dogged reporter (Carla Gugino) reveals she has damning information about the family.

“Breaking Bad”
DRAMA. “Breaking Bad” creator Vince Gilligan has always said the story of chemistry teacher-turned-meth dealer Walter White (Bryan Cranston) was the progression of Mr. Chips becoming Scarface. That arc reached its high in last season’s finale, when Walt blew up his lab — and bad dude boss. As the series enters its final season on Sunday, the fallout is the kind of shockingly ruthless, yet remarkably human drama that makes this one of the best series on television.
