The 2012 MTV Movie Awards

SPECIAL. Russell Brand hosts the show that hands popcorn trophies to those worthy of the “Best
On-Screen Dirtbag” award. But keep in mind the demo: This is looking
like a showdown between sparkly vampires (“The Twilight Saga”) and
tough-as-nails tributes (“The Hunger Games”).

Sunday, 9 p.m., MTV

“In the Life”

DOCUMENTARY. The newsmagazine “In the Life” presents the documentary “Orgullo Latino,” examining lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues Latinos in the United States are facing. CNN anchor Jane Velez-Mitchell, Eduardo Xol, designer on “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” and Daniel Hernandez, a former intern for Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords who is credited with saving her life during a shooting in Tucson, are among the notables joining the conversation.

“Whale Wars”

REALITY. It’s back to Japanese waters for Captain Paul Watson and the crew of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, who are hunted just as aggressively as the giant mammals they’re trying to save.
