TV picks: Weekend, June 8-10

This weekend's TV highlights: "True Blood" is back with bite.

"True Blood"

DRAMA. Is Sookie's BFF Tara dead? (She was shot in the head in the Season 4 finale.) Is former vampire king Russell Edgington alive? (Back in Season 3, he was buried by a cement mixer.) Things aren't ever what they seem in Bon Temps, so, no and yes? After the witch war of last season, this year promises to dive deeper into the inner workings of the vampire society, introducing the 500-year-old head of the Vampire Authority (new cast member Christopher Meloni) and his mission to peaceably coexist with humans (by violent means, if necessary). But, really — don't we all just want to see more of werewolf Alcide and his abs?

Season premiere, Sunday, 9 p.m., HBO

"Jersey Shore Shark Attack"

MOVIE. The partying ways of Nooki and The Complication are interrupted by shark attacks on the Jersey shore. Has anyone stopped to think that maybe these poor, misguided sharks are just as addicted to spray tan and vodka as the self-professed guidos and guidettes?

Saturday, 9 p.m., Syfy

The 66th Annual Tony Awards

SPECIAL. A little song, dance and back patting takes place at the Beacon Theatre on Sunday, when the best of Broadway is honored. Neil Patrick Harris returns as host; check out www.metro.us/arts for our full coverage from the ceremony.

Sunday, 8 p.m., CBS
