“Boardwalk Empire”

DRAMA. Nucky (Steve Buscemi) rings in the new year — they’re welcoming 1923 as Season 3 opens — by selling booze to fewer distributors, which pisses off newcomer Gyp Rosetti (Bobby Cannavale), who threatens to beat the crap out of people for far less controversial reasons. The booze flows freely, however, during Nucky and Margaret’s (Kelly Macdonald) extravagant NYE party, which makes us tipsy just watching.

Season premiere, Sunday, 9 p.m., HBO

“Saturday Night Live”

COMEDY. Seth MacFarlane hosts the Season 38 opener with performances by musical guest Frank Ocean and, more than likely, appearances by “Obama” and “Romney” — if not the real presidential candidates themselves.

Season premiere, Saturday, 11:30 p.m., NBC

“Shark Tank”

REALITY. Entrepreneurs selling a remedy for bed bugs get the Sharks’ attention — or at least make them itch.

Season premiere, Friday, 8 p.m., ABC
