‘Charlie’s Angels’

DRAMA. Who thought a serious-minded “Charlie’s Angels” remake was a good idea? Where’s the cheeky fun? Instead we get a disgraced cop (Annie Ilonzeh), rich-girl-turned-thief (Rachael Taylor) and street racer (Minka Kelly) — all super hot ladies, at least — acting like Jack Bauer. Except Jack Bauer was believable, and it’s really, really hard not to laugh at Kelly’s little girl purr when she’s trying to be a badass in the face of an underworld kingpin. If only we were supposed to laugh.

Series premiere, 8 p.m., ABC

‘Prime Suspect’

DRAMA. Maria Bello’s Jane Timoney — the only female detective in her homicide unit — shows the “beef trust” how to get the job done. The boys club theme is heavy-handed in the pilot, but Bello is absolutely absorbing as the flawed heroine.

Series premiere, 10 p.m., NBC

‘The Office’

COMEDY. Robert California (James Spader) begins his reign of terror at Dunder Mifflin. Wait, we mean tenure. He begins his tenure. (He totally creeped you out too, right?)

Season premiere, 9 p.m., NBC

‘The Mentalist’

DRAMA. Sorry, Jane. You don’t kill a guy in the middle of a shopping center — even if you think the guy is your serial killer nemesis, Red John — and get away cleanly. Season 4 picks up moments after last season’s cliffhanger shooting.

Season premiere, 10 p.m., CBS
