This weekend's TV highlights: Crime gets "Grimm"

DRAMA. What if the dark tales of the Brothers Grimm were actually legit records of the mayhem spread by monsters? It’s a cool premise, which leads to a few good scares when a Portland homicide detective (David Giuntoli) learns he’s the descendant of these literary crime-fighters and begins to link seemingly human fairy tale creatures to real-world crimes.

Series premiere, Friday, 9 p.m., NBC

‘Once Upon A Time’

DRAMA. Meanwhile, in ABC’s fairy tale drama, “True Blood” vampire Kristin Bauer guests stars as Maleficent, a baddie introduced when the circumstances surrounding the release of the Evil Queen’s curse are revealed.

Sunday, 8 p.m., ABC

‘Allen Gregory’

COMEDY. Allen Gregory is a 7-year-old Richie Rich rip-off whose family’s economic downfall forces him — and his Louis Vuitton lunchbox full of sushi and pinot grigio — into public school. But it’s the kids and teachers forced to deal with this precocious, pretentious brat — along with anyone looking for the kind of honest humor found in “Allen Gregory” creator/star Jonah Hill’s previous work — that we truly feel sorry for.

Series premiere, Sunday, 8:30 p.m., Fox

DRAMA. From the creators of “The Killing” (the original version that didn’t piss off everybody) comes this tense political drama following a female Danish prime minister.

Series premiere, Saturday, 9:30 p.m., Link TV
