Putting on that poncho changed her life
I love this character. I’ve grown so close to her in playing her. It’s gonna be hard to say goodbye, but it will always be such an incredible period of my life. I grew up so much in the course of the show. I’m so proud of what we’ve done with it, and proud of what it’s meant to so many people.
She had a hand in how Betty’s journey ends
Silvio Horta [the creator of the show] and I have had conversations about the last episode of “Ugly Betty” since Season 1. Like, “What are we going for? What are we aiming for? We have to stay focused about who this character is and what this story is about; otherwise, what’s the point of it?” Now that it’s finally here, it’s much more specific. But I’m not gonna say [how it ends] because I need you to go watch it.
And though the farewell is tough, she’s ready to move on
“Ugly Betty” has been the last four years of my life. And in the most intense way, because we work at the very least 12-hour days, five days a week, 10 months out of the year, four years in a row. It just becomes your life. I really love Betty, but I’m really excited to move on and embody other characters. But there’s definitely a sorrow. It’s hard, you know? I think what I’m doing next is probably to sleep and relax and just have that exciting feeling of anything’s possible.
