The United States women's soccer team, specifically midfielder Megan Rapinoe, took care of business Monday night in their 2015 World Cup opener, defeating Australia, 3-1, at Winnipeg Stadium.
Rapinoe scored two goals, the American's first - in the 12th minute of play - and their third - in the 78thminute of play.Christen Press scored the sandwich goal for the U.S. off a perfect feed from Sydney Leroux.
Press' goal broke a 1-1 tie as Australia made the Americans work early on. Lisa De Vannacapitalized off some fine work inside the box to beat Hope Solo.Overall,Solo was strong however - makingseveral spectacular saves, particularly early. Australia had 10 shots on goal.
