Urkel to Samba? Jaleel White to appear on ‘Dancing with the Stars’

It might be difficult to imagine legendary “Family Matters” character Steve Urkel gracefully twirling across a dance floor, but you’re about to see it happen.

35-year-old Jaleel White, who played Urkel for nine seasons, has joined the cast of ABC hit “Dancing with the Stars,” as announced on “Good Morning America.”

If you haven’t been keeping track of White since “Family Matters” wrapped up, we’re happy to report that he’s matured into a strapping young man, distinctly more stylish than his geeky adolescent character. In fact, in his recent photos, we’re reminded of Stefan Urquelle, Urkel’s suave alter ego who appeared later in the show.

We’re hoping his dance moves channel a whole lot more Urquelle than Urkel, but we’re half expecting White to don a pair of suspenders and shuffle across the floor while asking in that famous high-pitched tone, “Did I do that?”

Other notable stars joining the cast of Season 14 include Disney’s “Shake It Up” star Roshon Fegan, opera singer Katherine Jenkins, Green Bay Packers player Donald Driver, singer Gladys Knight, View” co-host Sherri Shepherd and singer Gavin DeGraw.
