US women draw Brazil

The U.S. dropped a 2-1 decision to Sweden today in their Group C finale at the Women’s World Cup. That means they’ll face Brazil in the quarterfinals.

And that’s not nearly as bad as you’d think.

Unlike in the men’s game, the Americans have long dominated the Brazilians. The U.S. is 23-2-2 all-time against Brazil, including four straight 1-0 victories. The 2008 Olympic gold medal game is among the wins.

The game is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Sunday in Dresden (ESPN). The winner will meet England or France in the semifinals.
