The crash-marred 2011 Tour de France got even worse today, when a television car floored two riders at high speed.

Swerving to avoid a tree, a France TV car hit Juan Antonio Flecha 35 kilometers from the end of the race's ninth stage. He went down hard -- but not as hard as Johnny Hoogerland, who was also caught up in the accident. Hoogerland flipped head over heels into a barbed wire fence next to the road.

Both were soon back on their bikes, but well out of competition for the stage.
