Wallace: Catch me if you can, Green Bay

Mike Wallace might be the fastest man on the field Sunday in Dallas. The way he sees it, there is no way anyone in the Packers secondary can catch him.

“I don’t know. We’ll see on Sunday. They say they do, but I don’t think so,” Wallace said.
But Sam Shields might have something to say about that. The projected foot race between Green Bay’s speedy cornerback and Wallace is the football equivalent of a Porsche trying to track down a Bugatti — and may prove to be the Super Bowl’s key matchup.

Shields, an undrafted free agent, has already shut down Eagles burner DeSean Jackson and Chicago’s Johnny Knox in these playoffs. With the slower Charles Woodson playing near the line of scrimmage, it’ll likely be up to Shields to slow Wallace, who can run the 40-yard dash in 4.3 seconds.

Wallace emerged as the Steelers’ deep play threat this season, registering 60 catches for 1,257 yards and 10 touchdowns. However, teams have found a way to neutralize him in recent weeks, holding Wallace to just four catches for 26 yards in two playoff games.

Meanwhile, Shields put on a clinic in the NFC championship game after collecting two interceptions, one sack and a forced fumble.

Next up? Wallace.

“I’m a fast guy and he’s a fast guy. It’s going to be a big challenge, and I can’t wait,” Shields said.
