WEEI FM simulcast deal official

Starting Monday, 98.5 The Sports Hub will no longer be the only FM sports talk radio game in town.

WEEI today officially announced plans to simulcast its 850 AM flagship station on 93.7 FM (WMKK) next week.

The move will kill off WMKK’s current “we play everything” pop format.

“This is an extremely exciting day for our brand, our clients, and most importantly our listeners,” WEEI VP of Programming Jason Wolfe said. “It has always been our goal to deliver the most compelling and entertaining brand of sports talk to Boston, and I’m thrilled that we can now present that brand in crystal clear FM.”

The Sports Hub, which is native to FM, beat WEEI in the spring Arbitron ratings book, finishing first among men 25-54. WEEI’s AM signal, which can be spotty outside the city, was widely blamed.

That’s not an issue anymore, according to the station’s statement this morning.

“The station will now be heard without interruption in Southern New Hampshire, Merrimack Valley, and most importantly in MetroWest and into Worcester (Middlesex, Hillsborough, Worcester counties),” it said.
