President Donald Trump and NFL football players have been in a verbal war of words in the past week, so what did Trump initially say about players to set them off?

Trump told a crowd in Alabama, in support of Alabama Senator Luther Strange, that he'd "love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a bitch off the field right now, he's fired. Fired!"

The comments started a firestorm of controversy and two days later, many NFL players staged protests regarding the comment. Taking a cue from former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, dozens of NFL players kneeled during the National Anthem.
