Kentucky Derby day is a lot like a condensed Christmas season in that a good chunk of the fun comes in the anticipation and the pre-event pomp and circumstance. The time to open presents – aka the race – only lasts two minutes or so (yeah, these horses are FAST). So, the party beforehand is often the highlight for Derby-goers and partiers.
Once the sixth or seventh Mint Julep has kicked in, it’s probably time to start thinking about the actual race. This year’s Kentucky Derby has a post time of 6:34 p.m. Eastern Standard Time but the race is not slated to go off until 6:46 p.m.. For the folks on the West Coast that’s 3:46 p.m., Mountain Time is 4:46 p.m. and Central Time is 5:46 p.m.. Often times, the race will start three or four minutes late.
Here is a look at the odds for each horse to win.
