Brian Cashman’s first priority this offseason will be pitching. And after yesterday’s injury news, the Yankees’ general manager likely won’t only be targeting starters.
Left-handed reliever Damaso Marte underwent surgery on his throwing shoulder and won’t throw again until at least the 2011 All-Star break.
“The labrum is very [torn],” said Marte, who allowed eight runs in 172/3 innings this season.
“They fixed it, and I feel happy because I know I can pitch maybe next year.”
He’ll take the mound for a team that should still include Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera, who are expected to re-sign with the Yankees, who lost the AL Championship Series on Friday.
