Staff won’t be cut, says Calgary police chief

Calgary’s police chief said he doesn’t foresee any effect on staffing levels despite shaving $2 million of his requested budget for 2011.

Rick Hanson, who was speaking at a luncheon, said the cuts came in areas such as decreasing fuel costs, reserves and training.

“It’s going to create a bit of a deficit with training,” he said. “We have to figure out how we’re going to address it in another way.”

City budget deliberations are slated to begin Monday.
