State judge allows NIFA takeover

A State Supreme Court judge ruled yesterday that the state could take control of Nassau County’s finances.

Justice Arthur Diamond tossed out a lawsuit from Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano to regain control of the county’s budget from state fiscal watchdog Nassau Interim Finance Authority.

“In this court’s view, a balancing of equities tips decidedly in favor of NIFA.” Diamond wrote in his ruling.

Minority leader Diane Yatauro agreed with Diamond, telling Mangano to back off on the lawsuits. “The Democratic Caucus insists that Mr. Mangano roll up his sleeves and work cooperatively with the entire legislature to resolve our financial crisis,” Yatauro said.
