State Police seek car possibly connected to fatal dump truck crash

Massachusetts State Police are asking the public for any information regarding a fatal dump truck crash on Route 1 South north of the Lynn Fells Parkway in Saugus at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers say that a man driving a dump truck hit the left side guardrail, flipped over and returned to the upright position. The driver, John Thebeau, 62, of Wilmington, was pronounced dead at the scene.

State Police are looking for a silver or grey Honda CRV with a spare tire attachment on the rear hatch door in connection with the crash. Officers believe that this vehicle might have triggered the accident by causing the paving truck to swerve and subsequently lose control.

Officers say that following the crash, the vehicle in question pulled into a nearby Taco Bell parking lot adjacent to the crash scene before reentering the highway and driving off.

The police are asking anyone with information to call 978-745-8908 or 978-538-6161.
