A Massachusetts State Police trooper, who was being investigated for a criminal act, was found dead Monday after apparently committing suicide.
The 40-year-old trooper, who was not identified by the department, was found in the Hilton Garden Inn in Devens with “self-inflicted” wounds, state police said in a statement.
State police launched an investigation Sunday and the trooper was the subject of the probe, state police said. The department would only say that the investigation had to do with “an alleged criminal act” that occurred Sunday morning while the trooper was on duty.
The trooper’s gun and other equipment were taken away Sunday at the start of the investigation, state police said.
On Monday, the trooper made statements to two people that he was going to harm himself, state police said. A search for him was initiated and he was eventually found dead in the hotel.
The trooper had been with the state police since June 2005.
