A State Police trooper is due in federal court this afternoon to answer to criminal charges for his role in an illegal gambling ring.
John Analetto is expected to be charged with extensions of credit by extortionate means. He is due in court at 2 p.m.
According to a federal complaint, Analetto loaned a cooperating witness thousands of dollars for outstanding debts to loansharks. The witness approached federal agents last month and told them he has been involved in illegal interstate gambling for 17 years and was recently introduced to Analetto.
Analetto allegedly loaned the money to the cooperating witness in exchange for a percentage of the gambling business. Analetto also allegedly told the witness he would refer people to the gambling business.
According to the affidavit, Analetto became angry and threatening when he learned money was still owed to him or the witness.
“On December 26, 2011, [witness] spoke on the telephone with Analetto regarding monies owed to him [Analetto]. In discussing a particular better who owed (witness) money, Analetto made statements to witness that (Analetto) would break in to the individual’s house and physically harm the bettor and sexually assault bettor’s mother,” according to the affidavit field by Michael Carazza, a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Some of the threatening telephone calls and interactions between the witness and Analetto were captured on video and audio recordings, according to the affidavit.
