‘Stella’ to bring blizzard conditions, 12-18 inches of snow to NYC

Just a few days shy of spring and the Northeast is bracing for a foot of snow in what could be the worst snowstorm of winter 2017.

This classic nor’easter, dubbed Winter Storm Stella, could dump as much as 12 to 18 inches on New York City. Wind will blow through at 20 to 30 mph with gusts topping 50 mph. Temperatures will reach a high of 32 degrees on Tuesday with a low of 25 degrees.

It will be a big one, but it will likely not rival last year’s blizzard on January 22-23 that brought 27.5 inches of snow — an all-time record for the city.

As of Sunday morning, forecasters predicted that the first flakes will fall around 11 p.m. Monday and will pick up speed at 2 a.m. Tuesday, with heavy snowfall continuing throughout Tuesday morning.

Snow flurries could be possible on Wednesday, too, according to projections from Weather.com.

Meteorologist Carrie Buccolatold Newsday, “It looks like this could have the most snow we’ve had all season.”
