Actor, writer, producer and expert banjo-picker Steve Martin is the Museum of Fine Arts’ latest curator. The “Father” of everyone’s bride co-curated an exhibit of Canadian 20th century artist Lawren Harris in collaboration with the Hammer Museum in L.A. and Ontario’s the Art Gallery. The exhibition includes 30 pieces of Harris’ modernist landscape paintings featuring the frosty peaks and gallies of Canada, as well as two installations of works from International Exhibition of Modern Art of 1926 in the Saundra B. and William H. Lane Galleries.

Martin is in town today and tomorrow, and will host “The Idea of North,” a free panel discussion on Harris and his role in art with the New Yorker writer Adam Gopnik, American artist Eric Fischl and MFA Ann and Graham Gund Director Matthew Teitelbaum on Saturday evening. The actor previously guest curated the collection of Harris’s modernist paintings for the Hammer Museum in October and is also, as the L.A. Times notes, a personal collector of his works. The show will then make its way back to Harrsis’ home country for its final stop at the Art Gallery in July.
