Three of the military weapons stolen from a Worcester armory have been recovered in New York. A homeless man discovered the firearms in a duffel bag while picking through bottles in a park near Yankee Stadium, according to multiple reports.
Sources told the New York Post on Saturday the unidentified man turned the bag over to police. Inside, officers found an M-4 rifle and two 9 mm pistols, among the cache reported missing from the Lincoln StoddardArmy Reserve Center on Saturday, Nov. 14, the Post reported. Police have accused 34-year-old James Walker Morales, of Cambridge, of stealing the guns. The former army reservist was arrested Wednesday.
The FBI has alleged Morales broke into the armory through a window and drilled into the ceiling of a vault, according to MassLive. Authorities said DNA evidence and data from a GPS tracker Morales was wearing also placed him at the scene, MassLive reported.
