Stores open doors in heat wave

As the heat spikes, so do the number of stores getting hit with a new $200 fine for flinging their doors wide while blasting the AC.

A city law passed last year makes it illegal for stores over 4,000 square feet to keep their doors open while the air conditioning is on. On Tuesday, when the temperature hit at 103 degrees, 311 got a record 23 calls reporting stores in violation.

The city has fined nine stores so far this year.
