Meryl Streep didn’t let the dress drama from the past few days dull her shine Sunday, showing up at the Academy Awards wearing sparkly blue Elie Saab.
Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeldcalled Streep”cheap” and accused the three-time Oscar winner of dropping one his his dresses for a designer who would pay her to wear it at the Academy Awards.In response,Streep released a scathing statement to People,vowing vengeance against Lagerfeld and the publications that printed his statements.
Streep secured her 20th nomination this year— she’s up for best actress for her leading role in “Florence Foster Jenkins.”
Streep’s dress got some extra attention attention during host Jimmy Kimmel’s opening bit when he called upon the audience to applaude the actress’s “underrated” acheivements.
Last month Streep came under fire from President Donald Trump after she criticised his immigration and border wall policies during an acceptance speech for a lifetime achievement award at the Golden Globes.
Kimmel gave a nod to that conflict Sunday saying, “Nice dress… is that an Ivanka?” Kimmel was referring to the First Daughters’ embattled clothing line, which has recently been dropped by numerous retailers.
