A man was shot and killed Thursday night when a gunman opened fire at Savannah State University, prompting the Georgia school to go on lockdown.

The AP reported that authorities are investigating the shooting, which claimed the life of Christopher Starks, an Atlanta native and junior at the university.

A statement posted on the university’s website said Starksdied at a hospital from gunshot wounds sustained during an altercation at the student union Thursday evening.

Loretta Heyward, a spokeswoman for the university, told The Associated Press the campus lockdown was lifted around midnight Thursday.

No arrests had been made as of Friday morning.
