“Upbeat and fun.”

That’s how Taryn Dixon, dancer and recent high school graduate, describes Summerstock Theatre’s production of Guys and Dolls.

Summerstock Theatre is operating through Westmount Charter School, Calgary’s only outdoor theatre program.

Guys and Dolls is the theatre’s eighth consecutive summer production, although they performed this same show before, back in 2003.

Over 70 high school and post-secondary students — all with different academic backgrounds and career goals — take part in this year’s performance.

“I keep coming back for the people,” said Aeron Mundell, 19, who plays Miss Adelaide onstage, and in real life is a second-year jewelry major at ACAD. “This is my fifth year with Summerstock.”

Dean Combitsis, 20, a Drama major at U of C, plays the lead, Nathan Detroit, and does so for “the personal satisfaction of it.”

“I love the energy we all bring,” he added, speaking of his castmates.

Student producer Alison Buchanan said, “We have a very talented cast this year. A lot of preparation has gone into this.”

Shows run nightly at 6.36 p.m. at Olympic Plaza; tickets are $12 and can be purchased at ticketmaster.ca.
