Summer in the city

The city enjoyed a sunny, hot weekend with temperatures in the high 80s. Melanie Bell, 34, was out in Washington Square Park.

“The summer [heat] provides a way to enjoy the city without having to spend money,” said Bell.

Victoria Rogers, 30, had a similar idea. She was visiting the city from London.

“You have to keep hydrated and everything, but other than that it’s not too bad,” said Rogers, “The summer is very democratic, everyone can have a good time.”

Whether you’re outdoors getting a strong dose of Vitamin D or inside luxuriating in the wonders of air conditioning, expect more ofJuly’s odd mood changesnext week.

The city will cool off a bit to the low 80s on Monday, then thunderstorms Tuesday night followed by partly cloudy weather Wednesday and Thursday. Friday and Saturday will be sunny with a high of 87 on Saturday. Rain returns Sunday, with an uncomfortably sticky 65 percent humidity.
