Super Bowl: Fans leave upset as Giants win over Patriots again

For the second time in four years Patriots fans filed out of Boston area bars sad, angry and confused.

“Damn it,” shouted Andrew Maycock as he walked through Kenmore Square shortly after the Patriots lost in the last remaining moments to the New York Giants. “I know what it’s like to be in a city when a team wins and this isn’t it. This is the weirdest type of silence. This is the absolute opposite of what everyone was hoping for.”

And it seemed like it was going to be the opposite.

The Patriots held on to a small lead through much of the second half, but the Giants made yet another comeback.

While there was a massive police presence in the city today as officials prepared for potential celebration riots, there was apparently no need for them.

Many fans walked out of the various bars near Fenway Park nearly silent, concentrating more on catching a train home than stopping at all.

Police commanders quickly relieved the officers from departments outside of Boston that had come in to assist and roads were reopened shortly after the game.

“I’m f—ing mad,” said Sue Rivera, 29, walking through Kenmore Square. “I love the Patriots, but it just wasn’t their night.”
