Supporters to house Liberals during Games

Around a dozen Liberal MPs and senators visiting Vancouver for the Olympics will be bunking with local Liberal supporters, who have offered spare rooms in their homes.

Joyce Murray, MP for Vancouver Quadra, helped arrange the accommodations by way of an email inviting people to host some of her colleagues while they’re in town.

“It’s difficult to get accommodations during the Olympic period,” she said yesterday. “These (homeowners) are Liberals and I think (volunteering their homes) is in the spirit of the 2010 Olympics.”

She said 11 people have offered to act as a home-stay family, and all her colleagues now have somewhere to lodge.

“I think it’s great that locals will provide a welcome to people from other parts of Canada.”
