Suspect died of gunshot wound: Post-mortem

An autopsy has confirmed the cause of death of a man who was allegedly killed by police after an east-end bank was robbed Friday night.

A post-mortem examination conducted in Ottawa yesterday concluded that

27-year-old Michael Jeffrey died of a gunshot wound after allegedly being shot by Ottawa police.
The Ontario Special Investigations Unit is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

At around 7 p.m. Friday, Ottawa police responded to a robbery in progress at the TD bank branch at 562 Montreal Rd.

Several gunshots were fired, with at least one hitting the suspect.

Paramedics were called to the scene on the west side of Claude Street near Clarke Avenue, where a man was pronounced dead.

The SIU has already interviewed several witnesses and is asking anyone else who may have witnessed the incident to call 1-800-787-8529, ext. 1898.
