Suspect’s residence searched

Halifax Regional Police are being tight-lipped about the execution of a search warrant at a home in Dartmouth.

As of press time, officers have been stationed at 51 Weyburn Dr. in Dartmouth since Friday night, according to a source. Police won’t say why they’re searching the house or who it belongs to.

“I can’t release any information for fear of jeopardizing what we’re doing there,” Sgt. Don Moser said yesterday.

Two Halifax media outlets are reporting the searched home belongs to Steven Elliot Laffin. The 35-year-old is currently facing charges of kidnapping, forcible confinement, aggravated sexual assault and uttering death threats against a woman in Spryfield on Aug. 16.

The victim was a prostitute, according to media reports.

Laffin has been in jail since his arrest.

Police had the windows blacked out at the Dartmouth home yesterday, and wore plastic booties and gloves before entering. A red Toyota Yaris sedan was parked in the driveway.

Police aren’t saying whether this search is related to the case of a missing Halifax prostitute.

Nadine Taylor, 29, hasn’t been seen or heard from since July 28.
