Switch problems stop 4, 5, 6 trains during morning commute

Switch problems at Union Square created an unpleasant morning commute for many subway riders who depend on the 4, 5 and 6 trains this morning.

MTA spokesman Kevin Ortiz said a switch problem at Union Square caused the southbound trains to stop running between Brooklyn Bridge and 125th Street.

Northbound trains ran local, he said.

The shutdown was in the height of rush hour, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:23 a.m., Ortiz said.

Meanwhile, those on the West Side could still face a headache – Manhattan-bound C trains are bypassing the 135th Street station because of switch problems there.
