Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you — if you go to Macy’s Herald Square.

The 2018 Macy’s Flower Show has brought a magical world of castles, fairy godmothers, knights and even a fire-breathing dragon to life for Once Upon a Springtime.

Going on now through April 8, the 44th annual show whisks visitors from the still-grey right into the story by passing under a grand castle archway that looks like it sprang to life from a storybook at the store’s main entrance on Broadway.

Venture deeper through a magical forest on the department store’s ground floor, find the princess in her meadow, take part in a tea party and discover the fairy godmother’s cottage (don’t forget to make a wish!) But beware the thrones of the dastardly kings and queens who don’t find spring all that magical and want to bring back winter.

The Flower Show brings together blooms from all over the world. Just some of the spectacular varieties woven into grand bridges, popping up on countertops and hiding in display cases include purple vanda orchids, yellow calla lilies and a weeping cherry tree.

Throughout the show, stop by for special events like a floral design class with Martha Stewart (April 5), aromatherapy sessions and a painting workshop with wine.

“Our annual celebration will give more than a million spectators a breathtaking introduction into this world of fantasy, sparking the imagination as they enjoy the first blush of the spring season,” says Susan Tercero of Macy’s Special Productions team, which also coordinates the annual Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The Macy’s Flower Show is open now at 151 W. 34th St. and free to attend, but you’ll have to hurry to catch all the blooms — it only lasts through April 8. Check out our guide for more of the best spring events in New York City.
