Talos arrives, with ‘Tethered Bones’

The 26-year-old singer behind Talos is attracting considerable attention after releasing just one track, the haunting single “Tethered Bones.”

Who?
Eoin French, a native of County Cork, Ireland, is the man behind Talos. His debut track, produced by Ian Ring of electronic pop duo Young Wonder, was released in March and has created buzz across music blogs and drawn comparisons to James Blake and SOHN. A video followed last week, generating a second wave of praise.

Why the buzz?
“Tethered Bones” spotlights French’s heartfelt vocals against a backdrop of synth beats. Those who listen further also find poignant lyrics about love’s contrasting feelings of isolation and attachment.

SoulBounce writes, “Yes he has a sound reminiscent of James Blake, SOHN and James Vincent McMorrow — think atmospheric electronics, brooding beats and a silky smooth falsetto — but ‘Tethered Bones’ is beautiful in its simplicity and straightforwardness, both in terms of lyrics and composition.'”

“‘Tethered Bones’ has the skeleton of an absolute hit with its incredible production, uncommonly smooth melody and haunting guitar and synths,” raves Blahblahblahscience.

“‘Tethered Bones’ isn’t so much a song as a moment to lose yourself in. Its minimal opening drum beeps transcend into restrained guitar notes, but all you really hear is the splintered soul of Eoin French. His voice is a binary instrument; enchanting and unnerving in equal measure,” says GoldFlakePaint.

What to listen to?
For now you can head to SoundCloud to listen to “Tethered Bones,” about which French said, “It’s a love song, about how a relationship can engulf and transform you: what it can and does take away. What you lose and what you gain.” Watch the video on YouTube.
