Taste the Force with Ample Hills’ Star Wars flavors

NYC’s favorite neighborhood ice cream shop is officially in the Star Wars business. But it’s not taking sides.

Ahead of the Dec. 18 opening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Ample Hills Creamery has partnered with Disney to create two new flavors of ice cream inspired by the franchise’s two factions.

Perhaps to ward off vanilla jokes, the Light Side ice cream is made with a marshmallow base mixed with crispy clusters and “a smattering of handmade cocoa crispies to represent the Dark Side lurking within the light,” according to a press release.

The Dark Side flavor, an “ultra-dark” chocolate ice cream with espresso fudge brownies and cocoa crispies, is similarly “adulterated” with white chocolate pearls “to represent the light hiding in the dark, waiting to burst through.”

The flavors were created by Brian Smith, Ample Hills’ co-founder and ice cream maker, who started as a horror screenwriter before starting to hand-churn his way to Hollywood success in 2011 and says the collaboration “might just be the coolest thing we’ve ever done.”

Because everything in the Star Wars universe is collectable, the pint containers are made from reusable plastic, with designs created in-house by Ample Hills’ art director, Lauren Kaelin.

One caveat: The Star Wars flavors aren’t available at any of their NYC stores, only online in packs of four for $36 plus shipping. So maybe invite some friends over for that marathon rewatch (may we suggest in Machete order ?)
