Teachers learn to save lives, pass it on

Close to 20 teachers from both of the city’s school boards were trained to teach their students CPR yesterday through an eight-year-old program in Edmonton.

Through the program, students have also learned the importance of adopting healthy lifestyle behaviours at a young age to avoid heart disease, says Sandra Clarke, an executive director with the Advanced Coronary Treatment Foundation (ACT).

The foundation’s high school CPR program has trained more than 40,000 Alberta teens as a regular part of the Grade 10 curriculum.

This year’s crop of trained teachers will be instructing more than 8,000 city teens in CPR this year.
