A New York teen who was accepted into all eight Ivy League schools will attend Yale University this fall.
Kwasi Enin, 17, announced his pick at a press conference inside the gymnasium at William Floyd High School in Mastic Beach, N.Y. on Wednesday.
Enin made international headlines last month after he received acceptance letters from all eight of the prestigious northeast schools which include: Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, Princeton University and the University of Pennsylvania.
Acceptance rates range from 14 percent at Cornell to only 5.9 percent at Harvard, according to USA Today.
The high school senior said that he chose Yale after visiting the school’s campus.
“I met geniuses from all across the world, and everyone from there was so friendly and inviting,” he said Wednesday. “I believe that their deep appreciation and love for music, like I have, was very critical in my decision to go there.”
Enin, who lives in the town of Shirley on Long Island, said he plans to study medicine and become a doctor. Both of his parents, who emigrated from Ghana in the 1980s, work as nurses.
The teen ranks No. 11 in his class of 647 students. He scored 2250 out of a possible 2400 points on the SAT, and he will have taken 11 Advanced Placement courses by the time he graduates.
Enin said he is “very satisfied” with the financial aid package that Yale offered, but he did not disclose any details, USA Today reported.
In addition to the Ivies, the senior was accepted to Duke University and three State University of New York campuses.
At Wednesday’s press conference, Enin thanked his parents and teachers for their support and guidance, according to NBC New York.
“Without their assistance, I would not be in this position,” he said. “I would not have had the initial drive to strive for excellence.”
His mother said that she and her husband have always worked to instill “strong moral qualities” in Enin and his younger sister.
“We are so proud and so excited about all that he has achieved,” she said.
