Police in Tyngsborough are investigating the apparent drowning of a 15-year-old boy at a high school pool.
Deputy Police Chief Richard Howe said emergency workers were called to Greater Lowell Technical High School around 11:45 Thursday morning, after the victim was pulled from the pool unresponsive.
Emergency workers performed CPR and transported the teen to Lowell General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
On its website, the school identified the victim as Danny Svay. The Lowell Sun reported that Svay was a freshman.
The Middlesex District Attorney’s office, which is investigating, said the boy’s death appeared to be accidental.
Details about what happened, including whether the boy was supervised, were not released.
Grief counselors were available for students, according to the school’s superintendent-director, Mary Jo Santoro.
“We’re deeply saddened for the family of the student, and we will be working closely together to get all of the information through the investigation, and we’ll have more information at a later date,” Santoro told reporters Tuesday.
