Teenage driver Franklin Reyes pleads guilty to Ariel Russo death

The teenage driver who killed a 4-year-old girl in a futile attempt to evade police pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Thursday.

Franklin Reyes Jr., 18, fessed up to a judge for his part in Ariel Russo’s death in June 2013, as well as for assault and fleeing from a police officer.

Reyes was originally approached by police for speeding away from cops and driving without a license after he made an illegal right turn in his family’s SUV on Columbus Avenue near West 89th Street. The chase ended nine blocks later when his car jumped the curb and struck Russo and her grandmother.

Russo died at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital soon after, and her grandmother was left with several broken bones.

Reyes was caught driving without a license again in August 2014 after making an illegal left turn on West 181st Street near Amsterdam Avenue.

Officers said Reyes refused to put the car in park, forcing an officer to reach into the car. Reyes then put the car in drive and dragged the cop 100 feet before crashing into another car.

Reyes even attempted to evade police while already in custody. He complained about chest and leg pains in September 2014 only to run away from the police van and lead cops on a foot chase through lower Manhattan.

“Time and again, this defendant demonstrated no regard for human life or respect for the rule of law, and because of this, my office has repeatedly requested extremely significant penalties for his egregious and repeated criminal conduct,” Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance said in a statement.

Reyes faces three to nine years in prison.
