Teens arrested after car chase

Two teens were in police custody and facing several charges Thursday after police said a vehicle tried to evade police but instead crashed during the early morning hours in Dartmouth.

Halifax RCMP said the car chase started at 3:25 a.m. on Main Street in Eastern Passage, where officers tried to pull over a stolen vehicle, which had been reported on Wednesday. They turned on their lights and sirens when the car started speeding away toward Pleasant Street in Dartmouth.

Officers then watched as the vehicle spun around, struck a pole and hit two parked cars. Police said they arrested one person at the scene and another in a nearby field. Neither suspect sustained injuries, police said.

A 19-year-old and an 18-year-old were to appear in Dartmouth provincial court on charges of fleeing police, dangerous driving and theft over $5,000, in addition to charges in relation to recent car break-ins, RCMP said.
