Teens survive crash that kills parents

Two Calgary teenagers have lost their parents in a deadly highway crash in B.C. this long weekend near Sicamous, according to officials.

RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said officials are looking into how the car was being operated before the accident on Monday that killed the 18-year-old male driver’s father, who was in the front passenger seat and mother, who was in the back seat on the passenger side. The teen’s 14-year-old brother was also in the back seat and is recovering in hospital.

The 18-year-old driver sustained superficial injuries only.

“It’s tragic. We believe that speed and the manner in which the vehicle was being driven is a contributing factor and we have witnesses who were following the vehicle prior to the collision,” Moskaluk said.

RCMP believe the driver of the Calgary-bound Mazda 3 took a corner too wide and struck the side of a bridge and then collided with an oncoming truck.
