The Patriots have often found insults and slights where there were none to be found. Even the smallest dig, is sometimes perceived as criminal bulletin board material in Foxboro.
One now has to wonder if Wes Welker will start to actually believe that Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips tore him a new one.
“Welker’s not (A.J.) Green,” Phillips told ESPN when asked if cornerback Jonathan Joseph would cover Welker. “He’s a good player but he’s not that big or a real athletic guy. He’s a quick guy that gets open on option routes. (Brandon) Harris actually played him pretty good.”
Phillips (who owns the great twitter handle, @sonofbum) later clarified his seemingly innocent comments, tweeting “Wes Welker is a great athlete and one of the best receivers of all time. #twistthataround.”
