The Clippers will try to dig completely out of an 0-2 series hole tonight when they host the Suns. After a tough finish in Game 2, Paul George helped Los Angeles stabilize on Thursday night, giving his team an opportunity to even things up before the series shifts back to Phoenix.

Where Paul George stumbled with two critical missed foul shots late in Game 2, he rebounded in the clutch in Game 3 to help seal the Clippers’ much-needed victory. His late leadership, however, masked an overall poor shooting night, as George went just 9-26 (34.6%) from the field and 3-11 (27.3%) from deep which still helped him amass a game-high 27 points.

What did not go unnoticed by us, however, was the effort PG3 put in on the glass and in distributing the ball in Game 3. His desire to help lead his team to victory was clearly evident in those areas, as he finished with eight assists and 15 boards, three of each coming in the final quarter.
George will surely, again, play a ton of minutes, topping 40 minutes in 11 of his 16 games here in the playoffs. In 14 games logging 40+ minutes this season, George has averaged 9.4 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game, good for a combined 15.3, which is well above what we need here and. George, again, won’t have Kawhi Leonard gobbling up much of those available rebounds and assists. This means the ball will go through George on nearly every possession.
Phoenix will likely try to get the ball out of the hands of the Clippers’ one bona-fide star on the court and Game 3’s leading scorer, leaving George’s teammates with open looks that should help pad his assist total.
Meanwhile, the Clippers will need another willing rebounder through the first three quarters as Ivica Zubac is consumed with battling Deandre Ayton for boards. You could also see Los Angeles push the pace throughout the game in an effort to test the legs and lungs of Chris Paul and Ayton, meaning more possessions and maybe even some George rebounds that lead to long assists on run outs by the Clippers’ guards.
We fully expect a seven or eight-assist night out of George given his inevitable minute total and potential style of play, but it is still comforting knowing that he has recorded five or more assists in five straight and seven of his last eight games.

Even that low end number would leave us with an attainable 10-rebound evening needed by him to cash our prop, something George has already accomplished 14 times this season (seven in the playoffs alone), despite usually playing less minutes and sharing the wealth with Leonard.
He also snagged nine boards in each of the Clippers’ previous Game 4s this postseason, both which saw his team down 2-1 in the series and in games which included Leonard.
Game 3 was a microcosm of a long-standing theme for George and his team. They won that game behind his monster rebound/assist night, which parallels the fact that he averaged 0.8 more rebounds and 0.8 more assists per game in their wins than losses this season. As such, those areas should become a focal point for George tonight.
Worth mentioning, as well, the star tallied his best joint rebound and assist totals on Saturdays this season, where he combined for 14.0 per game.
Look for George to continue his all-around contributions tonight, doing whatever it takes to help the team win this all-important Game 4 at home. After all, it’s no accident that in his eight home games this season in which he logged more than 40 minutes of play, George averaged 15.6 combined rebounds and assists.
