The clock’s ticking

Katee Sackhoff knows how to kick some butt.

She proved it in her star-making role as the fearless space soldier Kara “Starbuck” Thrace on SyFy’s “Battlestar Galactica.” And as a new day dawns on the action/drama “24” on Sunday, the 29-year-old easily fits right into the chaos — even if her character, CTU data analyst Dana Walsh, isn’t taking down a few robots on this particular quest to save the world.

“She’s a computer analyst. She has a past. I keep saying that — everyone is like, ‘Oh, she has a past. Is it bad?’ And I’m like, ‘No. She raised show ponies in Kentucky.’ Yes, it’s bad. It’s ‘24,’” Sackhoff joked during the Fox portion of the Television Critics Association press tour on Monday.

The bad unleashed onto the bigger world of “24”’s eighth season sets the drama in New York City, where Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) is persuaded to rejoin CTU. Dana becomes instrumental in his efforts to take down the latest terrorist threats, but it wasn’t long ago that the two were involved in a different battle.

“Starbuck and Jack went up against each other [as] TV’s Coolest Character, and I won,” Sackhoff explained. “It’s because I have boobs and two guns,” she grinned.
