Pastries are no longer enough to express all the creativity that chef Dominique Ansel has for food. The baked goods savant has been branching into the savory world, inviting chef Wylie Dufresne into his kitchen to cook breakfast in January, then his own pop-up Taiwanese dinner at Grand Army Bar last month, and this weekend he’s got a new sandwich collaboration.
From Friday through Sunday only, Ansel got chef Deuki Hong of Korean barbecue sensation Kang Ho Dong Baekjeongput his spin on the classic French dip. The KFD, or Korean French Dip, starts with a black garlic-studded potato hoagie slathered with garlic butter on one side and a kimchi-bacon-onion marmalade on the other, all in the service of slow-roasted prime rib. For the jus, there’s a choice of two flavors made from Korean-style short rib: shiitake mushroom or spicy serrano.
The sandwich will set you back $22 and is only available at Dominique Ansel Kitchen beginning this Friday, April 1, at 6 p.m. then starting at noon through the weekend.
