The new trailer for season 2 of ‘House of Cards’ is pretty dramatic

Netflix just released this new trailer for the upcoming second season of their excellent original political drama “House of Cards,” and what it reveals most definitely picks up where all the drama, intrigue and considerable snark (mostly from the inimitable Kevin Spacey) left off.

The first season — chock full of sex, violence and lies, all threatening to topple the artfully constructed title house of a career that so many of the characters have built for themselves — ended with murder and Frank Underwood’s (Spacey) acceptance of a nomination for Vice President. That puts him one step closer to the presidency, which is a terrifying thought.

In the trailer, we find Frank’s wife Claire (the icily cool Robin Wright Penn) growing ever more devious and cold, under Frank’s advisement, and headstrong cub reporter Zoe Barnes (Kate Mara) appearing to finally grow a pair and stand up for herself. (Despite her penchant for gritty investigative journalism, as a female character, she’s a huge pushover.)

Plus, all the tension and underhanded power plays we’ve come to expect from one of 2013’s best shows. “House of Cards” returns to Netflix on February 14.
