The Out NYC: New York gets its first gay hotel

Hell’s Kitchen will soon be home to New York City’s first gay hotel. The 105-room Out NYC, located at 501 West 42nd Street and set to open March 1, is already accepting reservations.

Rooms, beginning at $250 per night, range from private suites to hostel-style accommodations where guests can share four-person rooms with single beds. A gay nightclub, a restaurant and a wellness center are among the amenities the hotel boasts.

“My vision was to create a resort and entertainment destination for gay tourists and locals to call home, bringing the best of lodging, food, nightlife and design under one roof,” said General Manager David Lopez. “Of course, straight friends, family, and allies are also welcome at The Out NYC so we like to refer to the property as ‘straight-friendly.'”

Lopez said the hotel will offer “LGBT-centric” package deals for newlywed gay couples and other corporate and special events. Employees at the Out NYC will go through cultural and sensitivity training with emphasis on tolerance and hospitality.

“While gay-friendly hotels are wonderful and are thankfully growing in number every day, THE OUT NYC will offer a larger community environment that these other properties do not,” Lopez said.
