In Los Angeles, the telltale sign of a President Obama fundraising visit has always been Roland Emmerich movie-level terrible traffic, but now we have another one: Gwyneth Paltrow smoking. The Goop guru hosted a DNC fundraiser at her Brentwood home last week, and apparently “was extremely unpleasant all day,” a miffed staffer tells Radar Online. “She kept saying that she was pissed off because everything was running behind schedule. At around 10 a.m., she started drinking wine and she was smoking cigarettes all day,” the — and I’m just guessing here — former catering employee says, adding that any Paltrow run-ins only happened early in the day, before staff were instructed to steer clear of her. “She was walking around on her phone and talking really loud to friends, letting everyone know that the president was coming to her house, as if everyone didn’t know already.” This never would’ve happened at a Martha Stewart-hosted fundraiser.
Paps quash Swift’s baby-making plans
Taylor Swift might have gone off the whole idea of having kids, and it’s apparently all the paparazzi’s fault. “I don’t know if I’ll have kids,” she tells InStyle. “It’s impossible not to picture certain scenarios and how you would try to convince them that they have a normal life when, inevitable, there will be strange men pointing giant cameras at them from the time they are babies.” I’m guessing she’s seen the kind of emotional toll that lifestyle has taken on her cat, Olivia Benson. And I mean, it makes sense, if she’s not even willing to leave her cats at home when she goes out.
Amanda Bynes checks in again
Amanda Bynes is back on the west coast and back in treatment. According to TMZ, the former “All That” star returned to L.A. over the weekend and has been admitted to the Las Encinas mental health facility in Pasadena. “Amanda agreed to come back to Los Angeles. Her parents are hopeful she will now get the help she needs,” a source says. It is expected that her parents will return to court this week to request a reinstatement of their conservatorship, which expired in August.
Did Lance Bass mention *NSYNC would be at his wedding?
Lance Bass must think mentioning that the rest of the *NSYNC guys will be attending his wedding is a good way to keep people talking about his wedding — and hey look, it seems to be working. But according to Bass, those four — Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick — should be feeling pretty thankful they made the cut. Bass laments to E! News that for his and fiancé Michael Turchin’s nuptials, they have to cut the guest list down from 600 to 300. “It’s so hard, we’re still getting it down,” he says. “I’ve already had people emailing me really upset that they didn’t get an invite, and no one has gotten an invite yet. There’s going to be a lot of drama with this list, that’s for sure.” Stop trying to pitch your own reality show, Lance.
Fan-made “Empire Strikes Back Uncut” is here, and it’s mind-blowing
Maybe this is a case of the inmates running the asylum, but it sure is awesome. As a follow-up to the 2010 Emmy-winning “Star Wars Uncut,” “The Empire Strikes Back Uncut” hit the Internet this weekend, comprised of more than 480 fan-produced 15-second segments edited together to remake the blockbuster. Styles of the clips vary greatly, including stop-motion Lego figures, no-budget reenactments, rotoscoped versions of the original footage and complete reimaginings of the material — like an Australian western or a “Minecraft”-style video game. Watching the finished product can be oddly hypnotic at times, so proceed with caution.
